(Exodus 20:14)
You shall not commit adultery
(Corinthians 6:9-10)
Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of
God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters
nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor
thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers
will inherit the kingdom of God.
(Hebrews 13:4)
Marriage should be honoured by all, and the marriage bed kept pure,
for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.
(Ephesians 5:18)
Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be
filled with the Spirit.
(Galatians 5:19-21)
The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity
and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy,
fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissension's, factions and envy;
drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before,
that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
(Romans 13:12-14)
The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put
aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armour of light. Let
us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness,
not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy.
Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not
think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature.
(1 Corinthians 6:19-20)
Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who
is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;
you were bought at a price. Therefore honour God with your body.
(Ephesians 4:30-32)
And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed
for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger,
brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and
compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ
God forgave you.
(James 1:19-20)
My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to
listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man's anger
does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.
(Proverbs 29:22)
An angry man stirs up dissension, and a hot-tempered one commits
many sins.
(Matthew 6:25-34)
"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you
will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not
life more important than food, and the body more important than
clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or
store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are
you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can
add a single hour to his life?
"And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of
the field grow. They do not labour or spin. Yet I tell you that
not even Solomon in all his splendour was dressed like one of these.
If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here
today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more
clothe you, O you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, `What
shall we eat?' or `What shall we drink?' or `What shall we wear?'
For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father
knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness,
and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do
not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.
Each day has enough trouble of its own.
(Philippians 4:6-7)
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and
petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the
peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your
hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
(Proverbs 12:25)
An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up.
(1 Peter 5:6-7)
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may
lift you up in due time. 7 Cast all your anxiety on him because
he cares for you.
(1 John 5:11-13)
And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this
life is in his Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not
have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to
you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know
that you have eternal life.
(John 5:24)
"I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him
who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed
over from death to life."
(Romans 8:37-39)
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him
who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither
angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers,
neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will
be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus
our Lord.
(Philippians 1:6)
...being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you
will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
(Hebrews 12:14-15)
Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy;
without holiness no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one
misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause
trouble and defile many.
(Acts 8:22-23)
Repent of this wickedness and pray to the Lord. Perhaps he will
forgive you for having such a thought in your heart. For I see that
you are full of bitterness and captive to sin.
(Psalms 23)
The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie
down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores
my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I
will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff,
they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of
my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely
goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I
will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
(2 Corinthians 1:3-5)
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father
of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all
our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the
comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings
of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort
overflows.
(Psalms 103:1-14)
Praise the LORD, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy
name.
Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits--
who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and
compassion,
who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is
renewed like the eagle's.
The LORD works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed.
He made known his ways to Moses, his deeds to the people of Israel:
The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding
in love.
He will not always accuse, nor will he harbour his anger forever;
he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to
our iniquities.
For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his
love for those who fear him;
as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions
from us.
As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion
on those who fear him;
for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust.
(1 Peter 1:13-17)
Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set
your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is
revealed. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires
you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you
is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: "Be holy,
because I am holy."
Since you call on a Father who judges each man's work impartially,
live your lives as strangers here in reverent fear.
(Ephesians 5:8-11)
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live
as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all
goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the
Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but
rather expose them.
(Titus 2:11-13)
For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men.
It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions,
and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present
age, while we wait for the blessed hope -- the glorious appearing
of our great God and Saviour, Jesus Christ
(Psalms 1:1-3)
Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked
or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers.
But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates
day and night.
He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its
fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.
(Exodus 20:17)
"You shall not covet your neighbour's house. You shall not
covet your neighbour's wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his
ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbour."
(Ephesians 5:3-5)
But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality,
or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper
for God's holy people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk
or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.
For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person
-- such a man is an idolater -- has any inheritance in the kingdom
of Christ and of God.
(Luke 12:15)
Then he said to them, "Watch out! Be on your guard against
all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance
of his possessions."
(Hebrews 13:5)
Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with
what you have, because God has said,
"Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."
(2 Corinthians 5:6-8)
Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are
at home in the body we are away from the Lord. We live by faith,
not by sight. We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away
from the body and at home with the Lord.
(Psalms 116:15)
Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.
(John 14:1-4)
"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also
in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I
would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take
you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the
way to the place where I am going."
(2 Corinthians 4:16-18)
Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting
away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light
and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that
far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen,
but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is
unseen is eternal.
(Psalms 42:5-6)
Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put
your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Saviour and my God.
(2 Corinthians 1:3-5)
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father
of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all
our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the
comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings
of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort
overflows.
(Isaiah 40:28-31)
Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting
God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired
or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the
weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall;
but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow
weary, they will walk and not be faint.
(Job 5:17)
"Blessed is the man whom God corrects;
so do not despise the discipline of the Almighty"
(Proverbs 3:11-12)
My son, do not despise the LORD's discipline and do not resent his
rebuke, because the LORD disciplines those he loves, as a father
the son he delights in.
(Hebrews 12:5-11)
And you have forgotten that word of encouragement that addresses
you as sons:
"My son, do not make light of the Lord's discipline, and
do not lose heart when he rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines
those he loves,
and he punishes everyone he accepts as a son."
Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For
what son is not disciplined by his father? If you are not disciplined
(and everyone undergoes discipline), then you are illegitimate children
and not true sons. Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined
us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit
to the Father of our spirits and live! Our fathers disciplined us
for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us
for our good, that we may share in his holiness. No discipline seems
pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces
a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained
by it.
(Malachi 2:16)
"I hate divorce," says the LORD God of Israel...
(Matthew 19:3-9)
Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, "Is it
lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?"
"Haven't you read," he replied, "that at the beginning
the Creator `made them male and female,' and said, `For this reason
a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife,
and the two will become one flesh' ? So they are no longer two,
but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate."
"Why then," they asked, "did Moses command that
a man give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away?"
Jesus replied, "Moses permitted you to divorce your wives
because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the
beginning. I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except
for marital unfaithfulness, and marries another woman commits adultery."
(Romans 7:1-3)
Do you not know, brothers -- for I am speaking to men who know the
law -- that the law has authority over a man only as long as he
lives? For example, by law a married woman is bound to her husband
as long as he is alive, but if her husband dies, she is released
from the law of marriage. So then, if she marries another man while
her husband is still alive, she is called an adulteress. But if
her husband dies, she is released from that law and is not an adulteress,
even though she marries another man.
(1 Timothy 4:12)
Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set
an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith
and in purity.
(1 Peter 2:17-25)
Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers,
fear God, honour the king.
Slaves, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not
only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who
are harsh. For it is commendable if a man bears up under the pain
of unjust suffering because he is conscious of God. But how is it
to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure
it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is
commendable before God. To this you were called, because Christ
suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow
in his steps.
"He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth."
When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when
he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to
him who judges justly. He himself bore our sins in his body on the
tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by
his wounds you have been healed. For you were like sheep going astray,
but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
(John 13:1-17)
It was just before the Passover Feast. Jesus knew that the time
had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having
loved his own who were in the world, he now showed them the full
extent of his love.
The evening meal was being served, and the devil had already prompted
Judas Iscariot, son of Simon, to betray Jesus. Jesus knew that the
Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come
from God and was returning to God; so he got up from the meal, took
off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. After
that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples'
feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.
He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, "Lord, are you going
to wash my feet?"
Jesus replied, "You do not realise now what I am doing, but
later you will understand."
"No," said Peter, "you shall never wash my feet."
Jesus answered, "Unless I wash you, you have no part with me."
"Then, Lord," Simon Peter replied, "not just my
feet but my hands and my head as well!"
Jesus answered, "A person who has had a bath needs only to
wash his feet; his whole body is clean. And you are clean, though
not every one of you." For he knew who was going to betray
him, and that was why he said not every one was clean.
When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes
and returned to his place. "Do you understand what I have done
for you?" he asked them.
"You call me `Teacher' and `Lord,' and rightly so, for that
is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your
feet, you also should wash one another's feet. I have set you an
example that you should do as I have done for you. I tell you the
truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger
greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things,
you will be blessed if you do them.
(2 Corinthians 5:7)
We live by faith, not by sight.
(Romans 10:17)
Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message
is heard through the word of Christ.
(Hebrews 11:1-6)
Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what
we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for. By
faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command,
so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible. By faith
Abel offered God a better sacrifice than Cain did. By faith he was
commended as a righteous man, when God spoke well of his offerings.
And by faith he still speaks, even though he is dead. By faith Enoch
was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death; he
could not be found, because God had taken him away. For before he
was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God. And without
faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to
him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly
seek him.
(Jude 20-21)
But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith
and pray in the Holy Spirit. Keep yourselves in God's love as you
wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal
life.
(Psalms 23:4)
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I
will fear no evil, for you are with me;
your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
(Psalms 27:1-2)
The LORD is my light and my salvation -- whom shall I fear? The
LORD is the stronghold of my life -- of whom shall I be afraid?
When evil men advance against me to devour my flesh, when my enemies
and my foes attack me, they will stumble and fall.
(2 Timothy 1:7)
For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power,
of love and of self-discipline.
(Romans 8:15)
For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to
fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry,
"Abba, Father."
(Ecclesiastes 4:12)
Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves.
A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
(Hebrews 10:24-25)
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and
good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in
the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another -- and all
the more as you see the Day approaching.
(Colossians 3:16)
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish
one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual
songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.
(Galatians 6:10)
Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people,
especially to those who belong to the family of believers.
(1 John 1:6-9)
If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness,
we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light,
as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and
the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth
is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and
will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
(Psalms 103:1-5)
Praise the LORD, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy
name.
Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits --
who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems
your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion,
who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is
renewed like the eagle's.
(Isaiah 1:18)
"Come now, let us reason together," says the LORD.
"Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white
as snow;
though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.
(Colossians 2:11-15)
In him you were also circumcised, in the putting off of the sinful
nature, not with a circumcision done by the hands of men but with
the circumcision done by Christ, having been buried with him in
baptism and raised with him through your faith in the power of God,
who raised him from the dead.
When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your
sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all
our sins, having cancelled the written code, with its regulations,
that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away,
nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities,
he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the
cross.
(Galatians 5:19-21)
The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity
and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy,
fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissension's, factions and envy;
drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before,
that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
(1 Corinthians 6:9-11)
Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of
God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters
nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor
thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers
will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were.
But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in
the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
(Mark 7:21-23)
For from within, out of men's hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual
immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness,
envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside
and make a man `unclean.'
(Leviticus 19:16)
" Do not go about spreading slander among your people...
(Proverbs 11:13)
A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy man keeps a secret.
(Proverbs 20:19)
A gossip betrays a confidence; so avoid a man who talks too much.
(Proverbs 16:28)
A perverse man stirs up dissension, and a gossip separates close
friends.
(Ephesians 1:7-8)
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of
sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace that he lavished
on us with all wisdom and understanding.
(Ephesians 2:8-9)
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith -- and this
not from yourselves, it is the gift of God -- not by works, so that
no one can boast.
(Romans 5:8)
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were
still sinners, Christ died for us.
(Romans 8:1)
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ
Jesus
(Romans 7:18-25)
I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature.
For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it
out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I
do not want to do -- this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do
not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living
in me that does it.
So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right
there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God's law; but
I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war
against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of
sin at work within my members. What a wretched man I am! Who will
rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God --through Jesus
Christ our Lord!
(John 8:36)
So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
(Philippians 3:13-14)
Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it.
But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward
what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which
God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
(1 John 2:8-11)
Yet I am writing you a new command; its truth is seen in him and
you, because the darkness is passing and the true light is already
shining.
Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates his brother is
still in the darkness. Whoever loves his brother lives in the light,
and there is nothing in him to make him stumble. But whoever hates
his brother is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness;
he does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded
him.
(1 John 3:15)
Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no
murderer has eternal life in him.
(Galations 5:19-21)
The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity
and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy,
fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissension's, factions and envy;
drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before,
that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
(1 John 4:20)
If anyone says, "I love God," yet hates his brother, he
is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has
seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen.
(Romans 1:24-32)
Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts
to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another.
They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served
created things rather than the Creator -- who is forever praised.
Amen.
Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their
women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same
way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were
inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts
with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their
perversion.
Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain
the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do
what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind
of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy,
murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers,
God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of
doing evil; they disobey their parents; they are senseless, faithless,
heartless, ruthless. Although they know God's righteous decree that
those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to
do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.
(2 Peter 2:4-9)
For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them
to hell, putting them into gloomy dungeons to be held for judgement;
if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood
on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness,
and seven others; if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah
by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going
to happen to the ungodly; and if he rescued Lot, a righteous man,
who was distressed by the filthy lives of lawless men (for that
righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in
his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)-- if this
is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue godly men from trials and
to hold the unrighteous for the day of judgement, while continuing
their punishment.
(1 Peter 1:3)
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his
great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through
the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead
(Romans 5:5)
And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his
love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.
(Psalms 71:5-6)
For you have been my hope, O Sovereign LORD, my confidence since
my youth. From birth I have relied on you; you brought me forth
from my mother's womb. I will ever praise you.
(Romans 12:10-12)
Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honour one another
above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual
fervour, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction,
faithful in prayer.
(Colossians 3:12)
Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe
yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
(Philippians 2:3)
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility
consider others better than yourselves.
(Isaiah 66:2)
Has not my hand made all these things, and so they came into being?"
declares the LORD. "This is the one I esteem: he who is humble
and contrite in spirit,
and trembles at my word.
(1 Peter 5:6)
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may
lift you up in due time.
(1 Corinthians 6:18-20)
Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside
his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do
you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who
is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;
you were bought at a price. Therefore honour God with your body.
(Galatians 5:19-21)
The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity
and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy,
fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissension's, factions and envy;
drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before,
that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
(1 Thessalonians 4:3-8)
It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should
avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control
his own body in a way that is holy and honourable, not in passionate
lust like the heathen, who do not know God; and that in this matter
no one should wrong his brother or take advantage of him. The Lord
will punish men for all such sins, as we have already told you and
warned you. For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a
holy life. Therefore, he who rejects this instruction does not reject
man but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit.
(Galatians 5:22)
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness,
goodness, faithfulness
(John 15:10-11)
If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have
obeyed my Father's commands and remain in his love. I have told
you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.
(Psalms 16:11)
You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with
joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
(Galatians 5:22)
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness,
goodness, faithfulness
(Colossians 3:12)
Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe
yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
(2 Peter 1:7)
...and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness,
love.
(Galatians 6:10)
Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people,
especially to those who belong to the family of believers.
(Proverbs 6:6-11)
Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has
no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions
in summer and gathers its food at harvest. How long will you lie
there, you sluggard? When will you get up from your sleep? A little
sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest --
and poverty will come on you like a bandit and scarcity like an
armed man.
(2 Timothy 2:15)
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman
who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word
of truth.
(Proverbs 15:19)
The way of the sluggard is blocked with thorns, but the path of
the upright is a highway.
(Hebrews 13:5)
Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with
what you have, because God has said,
"Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."
(Matthew 28:18-20)
Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven
and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples
of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of
the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything
I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very
end of the age."
(Psalms 40:1-5)
I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry.
He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire;
he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.
He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD.
Blessed is the man who makes the LORD his trust,
who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false
gods.
Many, O LORD my God, are the wonders you have done.
The things you planned for us no one can recount to you;
were I to speak and tell of them, they would be too many to declare.
(1 Corinthians 13:4-8)
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast,
it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not
easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight
in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always
trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease;
where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge,
it will pass away.
(Galatians 5:22)
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness,
goodness, faithfulness
(Colossians 3:12-15)
Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe
yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have
against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all
these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect
unity.
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members
of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.
(Romans 13:13-14)
Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness,
not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy.
Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not
think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature.
(2 Peter 1:13-16)
I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in
the tent of this body, because I know that I will soon put it aside,
as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. And I will make every
effort to see that after my departure you will always be able to
remember these things. We did not follow cleverly invented stories
when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ,
but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
(1 Peter 2:11-12)
Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world,
to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul. Live
such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of
doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the
day he visits us.
(Exodus 20:16)
"You shall not give false testimony against your neighbour"
(Ephesians 4:23-25)
...to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the
new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully
to his neighbour
(Proverbs 12:22)
The LORD detests lying lips, but he delights in men who are truthful.
(1 Peter 1:3)
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his
great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through
the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead
(Titus 3:5)
he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because
of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal
by the Holy Spirit
(Psalms 51:1-2)
Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love;
according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions.
Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.
(1 Samuel 15:22)
"Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as
much as in obeying the voice of the LORD? To obey is better than
sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.
(John 14:21)
Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves
me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love
him and show myself to him."
(1 John 2:3-6)
We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands. The
man who says, "I know him," but does not do what he commands
is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But if anyone obeys his
word, God's love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know
we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus
did.
(Galatians 5:22)
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness,
goodness, faithfulness
(Ephesians 4:2)
Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another
in love.
(Colossians 1:11)
being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might
so that you may have great endurance and patience...
(Colossians 3:12)
Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe
yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
(Galatians 5:22)
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness,
goodness, faithfulness
(Isaiah 26:3)
You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because
he trusts in you.
(Romans 8:6)
The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the
Spirit is life and peace
(Colossians 3:15)
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of
one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.
(John 15:18-21)
"If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.
If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it
is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of
the world. That is why the world hates you. Remember the words I
spoke to you: `No servant is greater than his master.' If they persecuted
me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they
will obey yours also. They will treat you this way because of my
name, for they do not know the One who sent me.
(Matthew 5:10-12)
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for
theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
"Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and
falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice
and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the
same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
(2 Timothy 3:10-12)
You, however, know all about my teaching, my way of life, my purpose,
faith, patience, love, endurance, persecutions, sufferings -- what
kinds of things happened to me in Antioch, Iconium and Lystra, the
persecutions I endured. Yet the Lord rescued me from all of them.
In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus
will be persecuted
(Matthew 6:9-13)
"This, then, is how you should pray:
'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come,
your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our
daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our
debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the
evil one.'
(Philippians 4:6-7)
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and
petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the
peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your
hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
(1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)
Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances,
for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
(James 5:16)
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other
so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful
and effective.
(Proverbs 8:13)
To fear the LORD is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil
behaviour and perverse speech.
(Mark 7:21-23)
For from within, out of men's hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual
immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness,
envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside
and make a man 'unclean.'
(1 Peter 5:5-6)
Young men, in the same way be submissive to those who are older.
All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another,
because, "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble."
(Proverbs 29:23)
A man's pride brings him low, but a man of lowly spirit gains honour
(Joel 2:12-13)
"Even now," declares the LORD, "return to me with
all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning." Rend
your heart and not your garments. Return to the LORD your God, for
he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in
love, and he relents from sending calamity.
(2 Corinthians 7:10)
Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves
no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.
(Isaiah 55:6-7)
Seek the LORD while he may be found; call on him while he is near.
Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts.
Let him turn to the LORD, and he will have mercy on him, and to
our God, for he will freely pardon.
(Matthew 11:28-30)
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will
give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am
gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
(Psalms 4:7-8)
You have filled my heart with greater joy than when their grain
and new wine abound.
I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O LORD, make
me dwell in safety.
(Jeremiah 6:16)
"Stand at the crossroad's and look; ask for the ancient paths,
ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest
for your souls...
(John 14:27)
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you
as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not
be afraid.
(1 Corinthians 13:4-5)
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast,
it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not
easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
(James 3:14-16)
But if you harbour bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts,
do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such "wisdom"
does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, of the
devil. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find
disorder and every evil practice.
(Matthew 16:24-26)
Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after
me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For
whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his
life for me will find it. What good will it be for a man if he gains
the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in
exchange for his soul?
(Galatians 5:22-23)
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness,
goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such
things there is no law.
(2 Timothy 1:7)
For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power,
of love and of self-discipline.
(2 Peter 1:6)
And to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance;
and to perseverance, godliness
(Proverbs 14:29)
A patient man has great understanding, but a quick-tempered man
displays folly.
(Numbers 32:23)
"But if you fail to do this, you will be sinning against the
LORD; and you may be sure that your sin will find you out.
(Galatians 6:7-8)
Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.
The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will
reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the
Spirit will reap eternal life.
(James 4:17)
Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn't do it,
sins.
(Isaiah 59:1-2)
Surely the arm of the LORD is not too short to save, nor his ear
too dull to hear.
But your iniquities have separated you from your God;
your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.
(1 Peter 4:13)
But rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so
that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed.
(Romans 8:18)
I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with
the glory that will be revealed in us.
(1 Corinthians 10:13)
No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God
is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can
bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so
that you can stand up under it.
(James 1:13-15)
When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me."
For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but
each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged
away and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth
to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
(Matthew 26:41)
"Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.
The spirit is willing, but the body is weak."
(1 Peter 5:8-9)
Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around
like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing
firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout
the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.
( 2 Corinthians 12:7-10)
To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly
great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger
of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to
take it away from me. But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient
for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore
I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's
power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight
in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties.
For when I am weak, then I am strong.
(1 Peter 1:3-7)
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his
great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through
the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance
that can never perish, spoil or fade -- kept in heaven for you,
who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of
the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. In
this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may
have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come
so that your faith -- of greater worth than gold, which perishes
even though refined by fire -- may be proved genuine and may result
in praise, glory and honour when Jesus Christ is revealed.
(John 16:33)
"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace.
In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome
the world."
(Proverbs 3:5-6)
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
(Isaiah 26:3-4)
You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because
he trusts in you.
Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD, the LORD, is the Rock eternal.
(Psalms 37:3-5)
Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe
pasture.
Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of
your heart.
Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this
(Proverbs 16:20)
Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers, and blessed is he who
trusts in the LORD.
(Colossians 3:1-2)
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on
things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set
your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
(1 John 2:15-17)
Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves
the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything
in the world -- the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes
and the boasting of what he has and does -- comes not from the Father
but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but the
man who does the will of God lives forever.
(Matthew 6:33)
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these
things will be given to you as well
(Romans 12:1-2)
Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer
your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God -- this
is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the
pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your
mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will
is -- his good, pleasing and perfect will.
