How to be Saved!
What is the bottom line about being saved! The Bad news is that 'for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.' (Rom 3:23) THE GOOD NEWS THOUGH IS 'FOR THE WAGES OF SIN IS DEATH, BUT THE GIFT OF GOD IS ETERNAL LIFE IN CHRIST JESUS OUR LORD' (Rom 6:23)
The Bible teaches that if you want to be saved from hell, condemnation and the consequences of your sin, it must be through God's grace
which can be described simply as GOD'S REDEEMING ACT AT CHRIST'S EXPENSE. Being saved cannot be achieved through good words, works, being very nice, saying your prayers or being religious and it can't be earnt! Ephesians 2:8-9 says that 'For by grace you have been saved through faith and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.'
In other words, Jesus whilst being fully God and human, died on the cross instead of us, in our place, so that we didn't have to!
How can we be saved...
- Repent (which means turn away) from your sins and confess your sins, admit that you are a sinner to God. Ask Him for forgiveness.
- Believe in Jesus that He is the Son of God and died for your sins.
- Receive Him into your life by the Holy Spirit. Acknowledge Jesus as your Saviour and follow Him.
The Bible teaches
'that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.' (Romans 10: 9-10)
'"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." (John 3: 16)
'But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.' (John 1: 12)
Note - This is where the journey starts not ends! Jesus made disciples (followers) to follow Him, a good place to start is reading the Bible, praying, going to a church and telling others that God loves the world and that Jesus dies for their sins.
If you have just made a decision to follow Jesus, congratulations because that is the most important and significant decision of your life and I find you will also find the articles in 'my notes' 'Do you know Him' and 'What is a Christian' helpful.
Also feel free to ask questions and by God's grace I will do my best to be of assistance, Jon |
