If it feels good, do it?
If it feels good then do it? That 's the message I hear all around me. As long as I enjoy myself and don't harm anyone else I can do what I want and what ever makes me feel good.
A friend of mine recently told me something along these lines:
(Generally speaking) During the 50's we knew what was right and we did what was right. In the 60's and 70's we knew what was right but rebelled and did what was wrong. In the 80's and 90's we didn't know what was right or wrong so just did wrong and now we are saying and doing what is wrong is right!
What am I talking about? I am talking about the absence of Biblical morals prevalent in today's society in England. About abortion being an acceptable option, homosexuality being acceptable lifestyle even permissible to the so called clergy. I'm talking about an education system where you are encouraged to say that is an answer, can you think of another answer when the first answer was the wrong one! How about fornication being acceptable amongst church going members as long as we love each other? God forbid! Recent bills being currently contested include no one being able to say that Jesus is the only way anymore but is just an option. The above is not freedom. Extreme liberalism results in a form of fascism resulting in anarchy where right and wrong is relativized and where people live in fear of being able to make common sense decisions as a result of living in a politically correct society. Remember the lesson from George Orwell's Animal Farm. The pigs end up wearing suits and acting like their human oppressors!
Ok that's the problem, what is the solution? How about a society governed by Biblical morals with debt cancellation every fifty years? Lets see if this makes sense! Not so long ago this country had a judicial system based around the ten commandments , Magna Carta (and a few other things!!) Are you ready to hear this? Does it make sense not to kill, lie, steal, commit adultery, not to covet, honour your parents that it may go well with you and take a day of rest once a week? Of course it does! We can't force anyone to worship Yahweh only, have no other gods or idols before Him or take His name in vain but that would help even more!
When Jesus returns He will set up His Messianic kingdom on this earth for one thousand literal years. Satan will be bound during that time (see Rev20) and the earth will be full of knowledge of Him and people won't be able to say the devil made me do it as those who rebel against Him will only have themselves to blame! People will rebel against God because the problem is the inherent wickedness in mankind as a result of the fall of mankind! Isaiah tells us that our righteousness is as filthy rags! Basically once we realise that our righteousness counts for nothing and we are willing to accept Jesus as our Saviour in our lives we will find ultimate fulfillment in Him not in our temporary earthly pleasures.
Instead we can say 'if it pleases God, do it!' Without faith it is impossible to please Him (Heb 11:6) If our faith is firmly rooted in Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God we will find true fullfillment in the life to come as well as this one. Consider that if you draw a dot on a piece of paper and then a line that continues and never stops, that's an effective illustration of our lifespan on earth and in eternity. Do you want to live by the motto 'if it feels good do it'? or believe obediently in the firmly held conviction that if it pleases God then I will do it? Amen! |
