Dear all, I am writing this letter to ask for your assistance. I need help with assisting a poor family living in Rwanda. This family of four are undergoing continous daily battles: in health, in homelessness and in hunger etc
THEIR PROBLEMS
Homelessness
This family’s home collapsed several years ago. The family are poor, so they have no money to re-build. With no where to live, they sought help from their relatives, who accommodated them for some time, but the new cramped lifestyle led to friction and arguments. The family were forced to leave after one of the relatives started drinking too much, too frequently. He became aggressive and threatening.
Food
Food is very expensive in Rwanda, so many people plant their own crops, but the weather is un-reliable and crops often fail through drought. Any money spent on seeds is lost.
Water
There is no supply of water in the village, so people walk to the nearest river for water. They drink this water, but they shouldn't, as it's unclean and leads to stomach upsets, which in turn leads to medicine being required - which costs money. Drinking water can be bought in bottles, but this costs money.
Work
Jobs are hard to come by in Rwanda, only the highly educated get well paid jobs - and favouritism is given to family members. There are manual labour jobs available, but these pay a poor salary and require a person to be in good health.
SOLUTION
Long Term
The ideal solution would be to buy this family a home of their own, with it's own water tank, then they could spend the little money they have on food. The water tank (collecting rain water) could be used for drinking and for watering crops, it would also offer the family a small income, as surplus water could be sold.
Short Term
The short term solution is to keep this family in rented accommodation and provide food and water, which I am currently doing. Rukeribuga (the eldest son) has just completed a computer course and is currently working in an internet cafe (unpaid) to get work experience. He is also attending an English course.
WHAT WE NEED
We need prayers and money, we need people to pray for this family in all their struggles and to pray that God will bring forward people who will help with their expenses. AND pray that we have surplus money each month, so we can save for a home and a water tank.
